COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Bronze Medallion

General course information

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations. This is the core award to be a surf lifesaver in Australia.

We are a volunteer member club providing lifesaving services to the community. Our trainers and assessors give up their time to run courses on a voluntary basis. Upon completion of your training you will be a valued member of the Alex community and required as an active patrolling member to undertake regular rostered patrols between September - May.

The course is recommended for SLS members who wish to:

  • perform in the role of a qualified lifesaver after the age of 15 years

  • participate in SLS surf sports competitions which require them to be proficient in the Bronze Medallion as a prerequisite condition

  • progress through the SLS Aquatic Rescue or Powercraft award pathway

Specific entry requirements

Candidates must meet all of the following conditions:

  • candidates must be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment

  • prior to starting the course, must have the ability to swim 400 metres in nine (9) minutes or less, unaided (goggles/masks permitted) in a swimming pool of not less than 25 metres. This will be observed prior to the candidate undertaking any water training or assessment activities.
