Welcome everyone to the first Presidents Post since the AGM that was held on 1 June 2019. I want to welcome everyone back form a few well deserved weeks off and I am personally looking forward to getting back into Surf Life and getting ready for some warmer weather.
It has been a bust couple of months for our new committees and I want to personally thank everyone for their kind words and encouragement as the club goes forward into a new era with some new faces in committee roles. If you have not already done so please familiarise yourselves with your committee members and I encourage you to say hello and introduce yourself.
I was pleased to see the start of the new decking area comence over the school holidays and look forward to seeing these works completed. Should add some extra seating areas for visitors to the club to enjoy and relax around.
Ashley has been working very close with Louise and the team to complete some upgrades to the foyer of the Supporters Club and I want to call out Louise on her great effort in getting this completed. Looks fantastic and well done to all involved.
There is many projects on the go at the moment that include upgrades to facilities, maintenance requirements, signage and progress on strategies for our core business – Life Saving.
You would have all seen that this year we have our own Summer Surf Girl Ambassador –Sonita Leng-Cole.
Sonita joined our club in 2007 as an eager Nipper and gained her bronze in 2010. A member of Patrol Team 14, Sonita is an active and dedicated part of the club and a successful competitor where she has just finished competing in IRB Racing. Sonita has taken up the challenge to represent our club on the Summer Surf Girl stage and we are all very excited for the year ahead. Please join me in congratulating Sonita on her recent appoint and I am sure you will all see allot of Sonita around the club in the coming months.
Finally I wanted to send our thoughts and love out to the McKinnon family and recognise what an amazing contribution you have all given our club over the years, especially Dougie who will be always in our hearts and memories. I was fortunate to attend Dougie’s funeral last month and he was truly a great family man and an extraordinary individual.
Looking forward to a fantastic year ahead and please remember that we are all very lucky to have such a great club with such great people around us. Please respect others, respect the club and respect yourself.
