Geoffrey Thatcher joined the Club in 1974, gaining his Qualifying Certificate in 1975 and his Bronze Medallion in 1976. Geoff was a very active member of the Club during the 1970s and 1980s holding positions as the Club House Director, Club Vice Captain and IRB Vice Captain. He was one of the harder working members of this era, also being an outstanding fund raiser and prepared to undertake additional duties around the Club at any time.
He was a competent surf sports competitor, winning Silver Medals in the State Cadet Board Race and Beach Relay Race. Geoff was also a volunteer crewman in the inaugural helicopter surveillance patrols that were introduced by the Club in 1976/77. Geoff was an outstanding member of the Club and gave exceptional service for more than 20 years and was awarded Life Membership in 2014.
