FRANK McLOUGHLIN

Awarded:

1941

Frank Mcloughlin joined the Club circa 1930.

?

In October 1941 the Nambour Chronicle wrote that the Woombye Patriotic Committee had just held a social evening to farewell the former secretary of Alexandra Headland SLSC, Private Frank McLoughlin, before he went off to fight in the Second World War. Many members of Alex attended, and during the evening an impromptu meeting of the club was announced, so that life membership could be conferred on Frank.

Office bearers from Alex and Maroochydore gave speeches celebrating his seven years of service as secretary, and the part he had played in steering and rebuilding the club through some difficult times in the mid-1930s. He was presented with a wallet, a parcel of socks and a propelling pencil.

Tragically, Frank McLoughlin never returned home, dying as a prisoner of war in Thailand in February 1944. For some unknown reason, his life membership did not appear in club records.
