Des Parkes joined the Tugan SLSC in 1955 and gained his Bronze Medallion. He was also a member of Bribie Island SLSC in 1980-81 and Maroochydore SLSC in the 1983-84 seasons. He joined the Alex Club in 1986 and became Club Secretary from 1998 to 1992. During his time with the Club he also held positions of Director of Surf Sports, Club Team Manager, Cadet Coaching Officer and was very active with coaching both in nippers and the ,cadet membership.

Des was a very competent, active member and also won the National Master Single Ski championship in 1990. He was instrumental in helping  the Club build a strong competition team and was a foundation member of the Supporters Club.

 

He was awarded Life Membership of the Club in 2003 for his outstanding contribution.
